At the recent 2007 NSW LearnScope Conference - Elearning in Sydney on 1 n 2 November at Randwick I attended an ARED workshop with Evelyn Flitman.

ARED is program that is user friendly (from the beginner level and up)to use in developing interactive learning objects or is looking for a different way of presenting information. At the workshop Evelyn went through the steps and here is what was achievable in 5 to 10 minutes on a little spiel regarding What is Outreach.

Anyways everyone, Evelyn has put up a site where you can browse examples of ARED and what it is being used for ok. Click here to go there ok.

Sharing Files

Thought this might help

Ethics on file sharing - great source of info if thinking about sharing files on the grand scale

File-sharing has received a lot of publicity because it is widely used for sharing files such as music or computer software. Be careful. The sharing of some files may contravene copyright laws.

Doctorate UTS Student Barbara Bee - Got the Biscuits But Can't Find the Oven

Barbara Bee spoke at the Outreach LearnScope team meeting challenging Outreach members the academia world is void of Outreach despite or the enormous outcomes we acheive year in year out.

Bee is currently undertaking her PhD at UTS and is doing it around Outreach. As you can imagine before she can start, she has to research her subject and get some background material. Well folks she has news for us. There is hardly any out there that you could poke a dogs stick at - despite tirelessly looking under any rock and crevice.

Bee's paper can be found here.

LMac??

Suzanne - Queen of the Blogs
Congratulations to Lake Macquarie Outreach (Glendal campus) who have created "OUTREACH LMac ONLINE" and established an online course - Intro to Event Management "a trailblazer event that will set the stage for other programs to follow". Suzanne's innovative creativity supported by Cass Ralph has resulted in a great resource for their local community.
Suzanne has used a range of tools of FOSS and Social Software tools such as Surveymonkey for a needs analysis, wiki's to set up class tasks when in the computer room. the wiki also work well for individual student's learning journal and for posting research which other members for use as reference material.
Another group set up a wiki page on a negotiated aspect of Living in Australia. The groups used the wiki well, working co-operatively and remotely. The group uses the online facility to keep in touch while they are doing work experience, adding any suggestions arising from their experience about valuable additions to a future course.

Good news: access to wikis and blogs

Dear Colleagues,
I just had a conversation with Robyn Jay from NSW LearnScope. Robyn advised that access to blogs and wikis are now unblocked across TAFE NSW for students and staff. The web filtering unit has done some work on this state-wide. If you still experience any problems in utilising blogs and wikis for teaching and learning, please contact Robyn Jay or myself for further follow up. There are still unresolved issues around media sharing, including sharing of videos, which Robyn is taking up with the web filtering unit.
